Square bullet Activities

  • Make posters to put up around town inviting people to visit the library at a "Library Open House." Send home flyers with students. Announce on CB. Push hard for attendance.
  • Make the library inviting and attractive with pictures, posters, comfortable chairs, and a showcase or display.
  • Label the sections of the library: Fiction, Animals, etc.
  • Make the open house a teaching experience by helping people locate books and check them out.

Square bullet Resource

  • Alaska State Library

Variations

  • Have some orientation classes showing people how to use the library. Students earn credit for training adults. If classes are in the evenings, they would earn extra credit.
  • Have students take a few books and/ or magazines each week to parents and neighbors to show what is available and to increase interest in visiting the library.
