sunFrank Keim's Exciting Summer

"In addition to working on my house at Fairbanks, I took a couple of canoe trips. The longest canoe trip was from Anaktuvuk Pass to Bettles, and that was in June with my brother David. It was about 140 miles long and had some of the wildest rapids I've ever experienced in my life. During the trip I saw a wolf, who was so curious about us he came right out to the edge of the river bank and watched us float by.

Another canoe trip I took with my brother David was down the upper Gulkana River. It was also a wild water trip with a lot of rapids.

Another trip I took was a long walk from Anaktuvuk Pass to the Haul Road. The walk took me and two other people, Andrew Benedetti and Susan Hall, through some of the wildest country left in the world, located in the Brooks Range. The walk was 70 miles long and there were no trails. We saw one white wolf, and even though there were Grizzlies on all sides of us we didn't see a single one. We could tell they were there by all the recent tracks.

At the end of the summer I went down to my son's wedding in California. While I was there I saw my new granddaughter, Alicia Ray Ann. I also climbed Mt. Shasta and visited the Redwoods.

I had a very full and enjoyable summer!"
