Summers Can Be Fun

This summer was fun for me, but it seemed short. I didn't do much after school got out because I didn't have any plans. It was so good to be out of school because I got tired of going to bed early and trying to do my work. I got to stay up as late as I wanted to do whatever I wanted, and to wake up late, too. But when I started babysitting I had to wake up early again, although not as early as when I was in school. Once in awhile I'd babysit my younger brother while my mom went to work, bingo or to visit someone. When I got another babysitting job, I had to wake up even earlier every week for about two weeks. Just when I was getting used to the job, I was done. I also babysat for other people, but that was only in the evenings while they went to bingo or to pick berries.

Some other things I got to do over my summer vacation were going to the sandbar, rodding, and for a boat ride to different places with my gram and uppa. Mostly, though, I'd go over to the sandbar across the river on hot sunny days.

I also went to Bethel to try to get a babysitting job, but I didn't have any luck. I stayed there for less than a week. I had a scheduled appointment, too, but I missed it. I had some fun over there when I saw couple of friends, but I mostly stayed in watching cable TV. I finally got bored and ended up going to bed early.

Twice I went down to Pilot Station to visit some of my friends from Edgecumbe, and it turned out to be lots of fun! I also went to St. Mary's for their festival. They had a square dance and a teen dance there, but I mostly stayed at the teen dance and went walking with my friends. The dance was kind of boring for me, but I hung around there anyway. After the teen dance was over I stayed there until the older people's dance was over too. Then some other Pilot people and I went up to Pilot Station.

I didn't pick berries this year because I didn't want to spend so much time out in the country. Instead I baby-sat for the people who went picking.
