The Life of the Land
Module Four

Equilibrium:  Balancing the Exchanges

Some background considerations

Exchanges (exoregional contacts)
Distance between origin and destination
Transportation costs (who pays?)
Migratory or inhabitory species, goods, people
Communication systems and objects (such as letters)
Transients

The goal of the Life of the Land modules is to arrive at some idea of what would be a good balance of objects, wildlife, people, services, and the rest between your bioregion and the rest of the world.  Of course you will be a net importer in respect to one bioregion and net exporter in respect to another one.

Students should come to some basic appreciation of the extent to which they and their lives are largely, on balance, giving or taking from the earth and the others who live here.
