About the Author

Eleanor G. Viereck earned a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Colorado. She wrote Alaska's Wilderness Medicines to serve as a text for the course she teaches in herb lore and holistic health at the Tanana Valley Community College, where she has taught since 1959. Her husband, a biologist for the U.S. Forest Service, wrote The Trees and Shrubs of Alaska. Their 20-acre tree farm and hand-built log home serve as a picnic stop and display arboretum for classes of Elderhostellers. She teaches and studies yoga.
