Wild rhubarb is a tall growing plant that reaches heights of
5-6 feet. The long, twisting leaves are bright green and the
non-showy flowers are white in color. The hollow stem is
about an inch in diameter at maturity.
Quchimak, or wild rhubarb is used just like
the garden varieties of rhubarb. The young stems are picked
and peeled to remove the cellulose, and cut into chunks and
eaten raw or cooked with sugar. My grandma said that it also
makes excellent pie. I arrived to Golovin in the middle of
summer and was unable to pick this plant myself. The plant
must be used when it is young or it is to "bony" to be
eaten.
